HELLO I'M DARRYL HICKS |WELCOME TO MY PERSONAL BLOG

The Body’s Most Powerful Muscle (It’s Not What You Think)

Your body is a machine. It is full of parts that need to be well-oiled and maintained, in order to work properly. But there’s one part that is highly under-utilized.
Exercising this muscle activates a slew of positive effects. Not only can it improve your mood and reduce stress, but it can do the same for people who watch you do the exercise. And the best part? It takes seconds to do, and doesn’t tire you out.
The muscle in question is the corners of your mouth. Exercising them has more of an impact on your mood than you would think. Here’s how to do that:
  • Raise the corners of your mouth as high as they will go. You are now smiling.
  • Breathe in as much air as you can, and hold it for 5 seconds.
  • Release your breath in short bursts. You are now laughing.
It’s as simple as that. Don’t worry about whether or not the smile is real or warranted; the effect is the same. The act of smiling actually releases endorphin’s from your brain, which really does make you feel better.
Take it from me, Darryl Hicks. I smile all the time, and it helps me function at my best throughout the day. And, because I work with so many people at Tungsten, my good mood helps them feel better too, and increases their productivity. All that from the corners of your mouth!
On the flip side, letting yourself frown can have negative effects on yourself and the people around you. Emotions are contagious; if you want everyone around you to be happy and productive, start with yourself. Trust me, you will be happy with the result.
