Tungsten Talks: Darryl Hicks Weighs In On the Science of Gratitude

When you look at successful people, they all have a lot of traits in common that helped them get to where they are. Some traits are more obvious, some aren’t. One of the more hidden traits is a sense of gratitude.
No successful person gets to the top without a little help. Even me, Darryl Hicks, CEO of Tungsten Solutions and Tungsten Revenue Consultants. I had a lot of friends, family, and a generous support group to help me get to where I am. I’m thankful every day for it.
So, let’s jump to the point; how can gratitude help you?
Gratitude explained
People with a lot of gratitude are always aware of the positives in their lives. When they succeed, they are more likely to seek out more success, because they can better appreciate the fruit of their labor. If they fail, people with gratitude can put it into perspective and learn from it.
On the other hand, are the people without gratitude, of which there are two types: type one is almost narcissistic; they refuse to give anyone else credit for their success, even if the credit is deserved. People tend to migrate away from this type of person, and what’s the point of success if you don’t have anyone to share it with?
Type two lack gratitude for their success because they expect it. Imagine you ran a 100-meter race, and all your opponents were 5 years old. You would expect to win so much, you wouldn’t feel any satisfaction if you did. And if you were beaten, you would feel devastatingly humiliated. This type of person feels similarly about everything they do. They also tend to blame outside forces for their loss, which is the opposite of gratuity.
Practice at it
Gratuity is a muscle; it needs to be exercised. To start working it out, I recommend, at the end of every day, writing down everything good that happened. Did anyone help you solve a problem? Did a friend make you smile? Write it down. Even a bad day has its good moments.
What you’re doing is training your brain to feel more gratitude. After a while, you’ll feel more positive, you’ll sleep better, and your positivity will attract more successful people into your life. Don’t believe me? Try it out and see for yourself. Just remember; don’t expect it work, but be grateful when it does.
